About the Yoga Meditation Society of T&T
The Yoga Meditation Society of Trinidad and Tobago is a non-profit organization that is aimed at the propagation, practice and teaching of Yoga and Meditation as taught by the Himalayan Tradition by Swami Rama and his disciple Swami Veda Bharati.
Aims and Objectives
- To uphold the propagation, practice and teaching of Yoga and Meditation as taught by the Himalayan Tradition.
- To form a nucleus of people devoted to the brotherhood of humanity without distinction of race, creed, sex, caste, colour, religion and nationality.
- To engage in true service to humanity at the physical, mental and spiritual levels and to appreciate and encourage all other individuals, groups or organizations similarly engaged.
- To provide a healthy and humane environment where a high standard of spirituality, discipline, integrity and service exist.
Our Spiritual Guide - Swami Veda Bharati
Swami Veda Bharati is the founder and Spiritual Guide of both the world-wide organization, Association of Himalayan Yoga Meditation Societies International (AHYMSIN) and the Swami Rama Sadhaka Grama in Rishikesh, India. He is also the Spiritual Guide of Sadhana Mandir Ashram, his master's ashram in Rishikesh and of the Himalayan Institute Hospital Trust near Dehradun, India.
He was born into a Sanskrit speaking family and raised in the centuries old Sanskrit tradition. From the age of nine he has captivated audiences with the depth of his knowledge and intuition in the Vedas and Patanjali's Yoga Sutras. All of his knowledge has come intuitively through which he has attained the highest academic degrees; BA (Honours) (London), MA (London), D. Lit. (Holland), and is the author of many books.
He was initiated into one of the highest paths of meditation and yoga by his master, the celebrated yogi Swami Rama of the Himalayas.
Spiritual Administrator - Alakshya Chaitanya
Alakshya Chaitanya (Alexander Benjamin) is the founder and Administrator of Yoga Meditation Society of Trinidad and Tobago. He started the practice of Yoga in 1968 and was introduced to meditation after meeting Pandit Usharbudh Arya in 1972.
He was initiated in 1984 while attending the loving meditation program in Minneapolis. He participated in congress at the Himalayan institute Pennsylvania in 1984 & 1985 , the Teachers Training and Self Transformation Programme at Himalayan Institute, Pennsylvania – 1985, 1986 & 1991 and Forest Academy 1987.
Alakshya participated in the Saundarya Lahari program at the Sadhana Mnadir, Rishkesh in 1998. Having spent six months at the Sadhana Mandir in Rishikesh, he completed the Gayatri Purushcharana. In the year 2001 he attended the Kumbh Mela with Swami Veda Bharati. In 1987 he introduced the Surya Sadhana (12 week) practice for the initiates and members in Trinidad & Tobago, which is now an annual event.
He has been nominated as a member of the spiritual committee and serves as a mentor for the Teachers Training Programme- AHYMSIN. He is also an Initiator. His love for nature and horticulture takes him to all parts of the country collecting various species of plants.
